Chiropractic Care

This is why you're here! We take pride in spending the time to get to know you and your individual situation up front. Your first visit takes about an hour and will give us a chance to learn your history and examine your areas of concern. If any further testing such x-rays are required, we usually determine that on this visit. Drs. Amy and Elliott Heilman are "Advanced Proficiency Rated" with Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique.

This is a method of chiropractic which utilizes an instrument to make adjustments that are quick and generally quite comfortable. We also have several other hands-on Chiropractic techniques we can use when necessary. Most people find getting adjusted very comfortable and even relaxing.

A little nervous? No problem! Please let us know and we will do our best to help your experience to be as comfortable as possible.

Custom Foot Orthotics

In some cases, poor biomechanics in the feet can cause problems throughout the body, including the knee and hip joints. By properly supporting the feet in cases where it is warranted, we can reduce pain and improve function in the lower half of the body. Dr. Elliott works with a local lab to create custom foot orthotics which take into account both the feet and the balance of the pelvis to reduce the amount of strain on your joints. People who benefit from orthotics often report reduced foot and knee pain as well as an overall increase in the amount of time an adjustment holds.

Diet & Exercise

As chiropractors, we are interested in how your body functions as a whole unit. Our primary focus is to locate and correct improperly moving bones in the spine and related areas to help restore balance and function. Improving your diet as well as moving and strengthening your body through the right kind of exercise can help to make these adjustments more effective and longer lasting. In our experience, people who remove irritating, processed foods from their diet and exercise regularly tend to respond quickly to chiropractic adjustments and have longer lasting results.

We can work with you to help you determine if any changes need to be made in your current routine. In the case of an injury, specific exercises can help rehabilitate and strengthen injured areas.

Meet Your Chiropractors

Dr. Amy Heilman

I first became interested in chiropractic when I was a teenager. For years, I suffered from chronic daily headaches. I was always in pain and the headaches drained a lot of my energy. After no medical answer could be found, my mom brought me to a chiropractor on the advice of a friend. He determined that problems in my neck were actually causing my headaches and that he thought chiropractic adjustments could help me. For the first time in years, I had hope about being able to live without a headache. It took several months of consistent care before I started getting the results I was hoping for, but persistence paid off! I will never forget the first day I woke up and realized I didn’t have a headache. It was like the lights had been turned back on!

Over the next several months, I started to feel an increase in my energy levels and my life began to change for the better. I had always known I wanted to be involved in a career related to health and this experience made me want to help others as I had been helped. After attending the University of Lethbridge, I went on to Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa where I was inspired by the stories of others whose lives had also been changed by chiropractic. Since moving back to Lethbridge and starting our practice in 2005, we have had three beautiful children who keep us busy and remind us every day of the important things in life.

Being a chiropractor is both challenging and extremely rewarding. I continue to be amazed at the power of the human body to restore and heal itself when given the opportunity.

I originally grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota and I have been a member of the Lethbridge community since 2004. Since relocating to Canada, my wife and I have enjoyed helping families on their path toward health and wellness.

Chiropractic has helped me personally with a number of issues and I would encourage you to come in and find out what chiropractic can do for you and your family. Before attending Palmer College of Chiropractic, I obtained a Bachelor of Health Sciences Degree from the University of Wyoming. Since then, I have attended multiple seminars; Logan Basic Technique, Activator Methods, multiple extremity adjusting techniques focusing mostly on gentle, effective chiropractic care. I have also attended various nutrition and herbal supplementation seminars.

Over the years I have gained experience and knowledge about custom foot orthotics and how they can help with back pain. I am always excited about learning more and enjoy helping people obtain their best potential. I look forward to meeting you!

FAQ

Common questions our new patients ask

How long does it take to feel better?

There are many factors which contribute to the answer to this question. Stress levels, quality of diet and sleep, age, and health history are just a few things that will make your case unique. Some people start to experience relief after only an adjustment or two.

Others feel no changes at all in the beginning and then slowly start to find relief as each adjustment builds on the one before. There are even a few people who will feel a temporary worsening of their symptoms while their body is healing. Not to worry, all of these things are normal.

We typically recommend visits which are closer together in the beginning and then gradually lower the frequency to help speed healing and minimize any discomfort which may occur in the beginning.

Do you bill insurance?

We do direct billing to Blue Cross and several other insurance companies. Please contact our office directly to see if your insurance company is on our list.

What do I need to bring with me on my first visit?

There are a few things you can do to help your first visit go smoothly.

First, if you'd like, you can print out and fill in our new patient forms here. If you'd prefer to fill in these forms in our office, please arrive about 10 minutes early to give yourself some time.

In order to help us understand your history better, you can bring us a list of all medications and supplements you are taking. If you have an x-ray or other diagnostic reports, you can also bring those in for us to look at as well. If you have had these tests done, but do not have the reports, please let us know and we will take care of obtaining these on your behalf.

Wear comfortable clothes. If your area of concern would normally be obscured by clothing, consider bringing in a change of clothes to help us view the area better (ie. if you have a knee concern, you could bring a pair of shorts to change into).

We do have some staff and patients who are sensitive to perfumes. As much as possible, we ask that people please refrain from using perfumes and scented body products when they have an appointment in our office.

What can I do to help my adjustments to hold?

Anything that helps your body to function better will help your adjustments hold better! Making little changes to your diet, exercise routine, sleep, and stress levels can all benefit you. During your appointments, we can help you troubleshoot the things that may be contributing to your issues. Sometimes something as simple as switching the way you get in and out of your vehicle or buying a new pillow can make a big difference!
